Background

I'm Nathan James. I came to Cambodia a year ago on a one-way ticket and never left. What I found was a travel industry full of extraordinary independent operators - guesthouses, tour operators, local guides - who were doing genuinely remarkable things but were completely invisible online, haemorrhaging money to OTAs, and watching the big platforms take the credit.

I had a First Class degree in Tourism Management from the University of Central Lancashire, and I'd spent years working across SEO, content strategy, and digital marketing for travel brands from Southeast Asia to the Middle East. The gap between what I knew was possible and what I saw independent operators actually getting from digital was too wide to ignore.

I founded NJoy Consulting to fix that gap. Not as an agency with junior staff and inflated retainers, but as a direct consultancy: you work with me, I work on your business, and we measure results in bookings and revenue, not vanity metrics.

The thing I see most often that most consultants miss: independent travel brands don't have a traffic problem. They have a trust and conversion problem. The biggest hotels in Siem Reap rank on page one for nothing - but a guesthouse owner who publishes honest, specific content about their destination can outrank Booking.com for the queries that actually drive bookings. That's what I build.

Recent work includes a 6-month SEO foundation build for a travel budgeting app targeting backpackers in Southeast Asia, where organic sessions went from zero to 800/month by month six with 34 indexed pages and a first editorial mention from a Southeast Asia travel publication. Across independent hotels and tour operators in Cambodia and Vietnam, the consistent result is a 15–25 percentage point shift from OTA bookings to direct within 18 months of implementing a deliberate direct booking strategy.
